Orbite Aluminae to Produce 5N (99.999%) Purity Alumina for High-Tech Products

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - September 13, 2012) - Orbite Aluminae Inc. (TSX: ORT) (the "Company" or "Orbite") announced it will begin the production of high-purity alumina (HPA) in the first quarter of 2013 at its plant in Cap-Chat Quebec. Orbite, which has developed new, eco-friendly and sustainable technology to allow for the extraction of alumina from a wide range of source materials such as argillite clay, bauxite, red mud, and fly ash, will use aluminous clay from its deposit in the Gaspe region of Quebec as its primary source material, for the production of 5N (or 99.999 % purity) alumina.

Orbite refined its first commercial samples of 5N purity alumina - produced at its HPA pilot plant - at its laboratory located in Laval, Quebec, which were then sent to potential customers selected according to their alumina needs and their potential for strategic partnership with the Company in its future commercialization activities. The Orbite laboratory aims to reach 6N (or 99.9999 %) purity prior to the HPA commercial plant entering service.

"The growth anticipated in annual worldwide demand for HPA should significantly exceed supply, in large part due to the increase in worldwide penetration of LED lighting and lithium-ion batteries," said Richard Boudreault, President, CEO, and director of Orbite Aluminae. "The unique quality and purity of Orbite's alumina will help address the deficit of global supply and make it a highly sought-after product in response to the urgent and growing need of the market and various material regulations. With our 5N product, for example, will enable the production of mobile tablets that are easy to read in sunny conditions, as well as LED bulbs of 60 W and above."

A white paper presenting the HPA production market, the economic and environmental advantages of Orbite's process entitled High-Purity Alumina (HPA) - Market Potential and Orbite's Competitive advantages is available online on Orbite's website: http://www.orbitealuminae.com/en/technology/white-paper/

Orbite also happy to announce the selection of Cockerill Maintenance & Ingenierie, a company with international expertise in industrial processes, in order to complete the hydrochloric acid recovery process for its high-purity alumina production plant. Aside from producing alumina at a low cost, Orbite's technology can also individually extract rare earths including dysprosium, erbium, and yttrium, as well as rare metals such as scandium and gallium. Orbite also has the ability to separate rare earths from sources other than aluminous clay, namely bauxite, argillite, kaolin and red mud.

About Orbite

Orbite Aluminae Inc. is a Canadian clean tech company whose innovative technologies are setting the new standard for alumina production. Orbite technologies enable environmentally-neutral extraction of smelter-grade alumina (SGA), high-purity alumina (HPA) and high-value elements, including rare earths and rare metals, from a variety of sources such as aluminous clay and bauxite, without generating the toxic red mud residue that the traditional Bayer process produces. The Company owns eleven different families of intellectual property rights (and patents pending) filed across the world for the extraction of alumina at the highest standards of sustainability. Orbite also owns exclusive mining rights over a total of 60,984 hectares, including the 6,665-hectare Grande-Vallee property, the site of an aluminous clay deposit in Quebec, Canada. An NI 43-101 compliant report identified over 1 billion tonnes of aluminous clay in part of this deposit. Orbite is currently converting its 2,600 m2 pilot plant in Cap-Chat, Quebec, Canada, into a full-scale high-purity alumina production facility, and expects this plant to be fully operational in early 2013. The Company also anticipates the launch of construction of its first SGA plant towards the end of 2013. Orbite plans to offer SGA and HPA products and to license its low processing cost technologies to well-qualified producers who want to reduce their environmental footprint. Orbite has recently entered into partnerships with the world's largest aluminum producer, UC Rusal.
