The Linux Foundation Announces Korea Linux Forum

The Linux Foundation

New Event Will Feature Linux Creator Linus Torvalds and Bring Together Korean Businesses, Developers and the Linux Kernel Community

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA and SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - August 7, 2012) - The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux, today announced the first-ever Korean Linux Forum, taking place Oct. 11-12, 2012 in Seoul, Korea at the JW Marriott.

The Linux Foundation is partnering with its newest platinum member Samsung on this event to increase Linux development and collaboration from the talent pool in Korea and other countries in the Asia region. These types of events lay the groundwork for collaboration that can unlock thousands of lines of code that exist in Korea and surrounding geographies at leading companies.

The Korea Linux Forum will bring together a unique blend of top regional and international talent, including core kernel developers to collaborate with software developers in Korea and increase participation. It is designed to facilitate in-person collaboration and to support future interaction between Korea and other Asia-Pacific countries and the rest of the global Linux community.

"Korea is a hotbed of new Linux development, especially in the mobile and embedded areas," said Jim Zemlin, executive director, The Linux Foundation. "The Korea Linux Forum will help bridge the amazing work being done in the country with the global Linux community, resulting in technical advancements for Linux and that impact the entire ecosystem. We are pleased to work with our member Samsung on this event and other activities to hopefully tap into the developer talent pool in Korea."

The Korea Linux Forum will feature keynotes from Samsung's Head of Software R&D Center KiHo Kim, Linux kernel maintainer Greg Kroah-Hartman, Google's Tejun Heo, Intel's Chief Linux and Open Source Technologist Dirk Hohndel and Linux creator Linus Torvalds.
