New IC Simplifies Design and Maximizes Battery Life While Extending Range of Remote Keyless Entry, Garage Door Openers, and Automated Meter Reading Applications

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - October 22, 2012) - Micrel, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCRL), an industry leader in high performance analog and high-speed mixed signal solutions, LAN and timing and communications solutions, today announced the availability of the MICRF300, a 100MHz to 1000MHz Low-Noise Amplifier (LNA) with low power shutdown mode. The device is aimed at Remote Keyless Entry (RKE), Garage Door Opener (GDO), Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) and other low-power, low data-rate applications in the 100MHz to 1000MHz frequency range, where achieving long-range, with minimal additional cost or power consumption is critical. The MICRF300 is currently available in volume quantities, with 1,000 quantity pricing starting at $0.19. Samples can be ordered at: http://www.samplecomponents.com/scripts/samplecenter.dll?micrel.

"The MICRF300 provides a low noise figure with integrated logic-level shutdown, allowing RF designers to easily extend range of their RKE, GDO or AMR applications," noted Brian Hedayati, vice president of marketing for the Analog business unit, at Micrel. "The logic-level shutdown input allows the device to easily be interfaced to a microcontroller without the additional bias circuitry typically required by discrete LNAs to implement a shutdown function. This makes it an ideal solution for battery powered and space constrained applications, which require a very low average current consumption."

The MICRF300 operates over the 1.8V to 3.6V supply voltage range. It provides a low noise figure of 1.15dB with a gain of 18.3dB at 315MHz and 433.92MHz, while only consuming 2.5mA of supply current during operation and a very low 1µA maximum shutdown current. The device operates over a -40°C to +125°C temperature range. The solution only requires simple LC matching networks at the input and output to optimize the performance for the desired frequency band and is available in the small, reliable and cost effective SC70-6 package.
